3 quick questions — we'll advise the best next step.

Step 1 of 3

What type of rendering work is it?

Choose the option that best describes your project.

The Rendering Process

Select your render system below. Each phase is documented coat by coat — with the timing information that actually matters on site.

PROJECT PHASE

Project Review

We review all project details before anything else: property type, location, existing substrate, any photos or drawings you can provide, and the full scope of work required. This initial review allows us to identify the right render system candidates, flag any likely preparation challenges, and arrive at the site visit with a clear brief — not a clipboard and guesswork.

PROJECT PHASE

Site Visit & Assessment

Every project receives a site visit before a price is given. We assess the existing substrate condition, check for moisture ingress, test adhesion on existing finishes, review access and scaffolding requirements, and confirm which render system is most appropriate. This is a technical assessment that informs everything that follows — not a sales call.

PROJECT PHASE

Specification & Planning

Following the site visit, we confirm the render system in writing: product range, coat specification, colour, texture, programme dates, and any special considerations. You receive a detailed written quotation — not a verbal estimate. The specification document sets out exactly what will be applied, coat by coat, so there are no surprises on site.

PREPARATION

Preparation & Protection

Preparation is where the quality of any render job is won or lost. All windows, doors, soffits and adjacent surfaces are masked and protected. Stop beads and movement beads are fixed in accordance with the system specification. Defective substrate areas are repaired and allowed to cure. Priming is applied where required. No render goes on until the substrate is right.

APPLICATION

Base Coat & Reinforcement Mesh

A polymer-modified basecoat is applied to the prepared substrate at the specified thickness — typically 3–6mm depending on substrate regularity. Before the basecoat sets, alkali-resistant fibreglass reinforcement mesh is pushed into the wet material and back-filled so it sits centrally within the coat. The mesh is lapped at all joints and fully embedded at all openings, beads and transitions. This layer controls cracking, bridges minor substrate movement and provides the tensile strength required for the thin silicone finish coat.

Allow 24–48 hrs before applying primer — longer in cold or damp conditions
APPLICATION

Silicone Primer

Once the basecoat is fully cured, a tinted silicone primer is applied across the entire surface by brush or roller. The primer is factory-tinted to coordinate with the final finish colour, reducing telegraphing of the basecoat through the thin finish coat. It also provides a consistent key and ensures uniform absorption across the surface before the finish coat is applied.

Allow 2–4 hrs drying time (longer in cold or humid conditions)
APPLICATION

Silicone Finish Coat

The silicone finish coat is applied in one continuous wet-on-wet operation across each elevation, working to natural break lines and avoiding cold joints. We apply either 1.5mm or 2mm grain size depending on the specification. The material is trowel-applied and floated to the specified texture — scratch, scraped or smooth. Silicone render is inherently flexible, breathable and hydrophobic: it sheds water rather than absorbing it, delivering a finish that stays cleaner for longer and resists cracking as the building moves seasonally.

48–72 hrs initial cure; 28 days to full cure before painting or overcoating
FINISHING

Clean-Down, Inspection & Handover

Once the render has reached its initial cure state, all masking and protection is carefully removed and the site is fully cleaned down. We carry out a thorough visual inspection of the entire finished surface. Any minor touch-up requirements are addressed before we leave. You receive written handover notes covering cure times, aftercare instructions and warranty information for the system applied.

How We Approached the Job

Every project has a challenge. These are a few of ours — what the situation was, what we did, and what the outcome looked like.

Freshly rendered modern house exterior
Residential K Rend Silicone Thin Coat

Full Exterior Render — Detached Home

A homeowner came to us with an ageing pebbledash exterior that was starting to delaminate. They wanted a clean, modern finish that would last and require minimal upkeep going forward.

The Challenge
The existing pebbledash had failed in several sections and the underlying substrate had cracks that needed addressing before any new render could be applied.
What We Did
We stripped the pebbledash across all elevations, repaired the substrate, applied a reinforced base coat with fibreglass mesh, then finished with K Rend silicone thin coat. Window reveals and roof junctions detailed cleanly.
The Result
A completely transformed exterior. Clean, modern kerb appeal with a durable silicone finish that needs no ongoing maintenance.

External wall insulation boards prepared for render
Residential · EWI EWI System + Silicone Render Finish

External Wall Insulation — 1930s Semi-Detached

A 1930s solid-wall semi with dated render, draughty rooms and rising energy costs. The owners wanted to insulate without internal disruption and modernise the exterior at the same time.

The Challenge
Solid walls meant cavity insulation was not an option. The existing render was also uneven and could not be overclad — it had to come off first.
What We Did
We stripped the render, fixed EWI boards to all elevations, applied a reinforced basecoat with fibreglass mesh, and finished with silicone render in a contemporary grey. All window reveals extended and re-detailed.
The Result
Noticeably warmer inside from day one. A completely updated exterior with real improvement to thermal performance — without touching a single internal wall.

Commercial · New Build Ecorend Monocouche System

Monocouche Render — 12-Unit Development

A North West developer needed consistent monocouche finish across 12 units. Colour match, tight programme, and first-inspection sign-off were all required.

The Challenge
Coordinating scaffolding and access across 12 units simultaneously while maintaining consistent colour and texture. The developer had a fixed handover date with no flexibility.
What We Did
Ecorend monocouche applied to a single specification across all 12 units. Each elevation checked for consistency before scaffold was removed. Programme updated weekly to the developer.
The Result
All 12 units delivered on programme and signed off on first inspection. Zero snagging on the render across the whole site.

Render Repair & Refresh — Victorian Terraced

A Victorian terrace with cracking, spalling render in several sections. The owner wanted a repair that matched properly — not a patch job and not a full re-render.

The Challenge
Matching existing render colour and texture on an older property where the original material was unknown. Cracking had also allowed moisture into the substrate, requiring treatment before re-rendering.
What We Did
All failing sections cut back to stable substrate, damp areas treated, bonding coat applied, and re-rendered in a matched silicone finish. All cracks addressed at substrate level — not filled over.
The Result
Repaired sections are indistinguishable from the rest of the elevation. A properly addressed, weatherproof finish without the cost of a full re-render.
